A Lonely Heart May Lead to a Broken Heart

By: Newsroom
Updated: June 19, 2012
A lonely heart could lead to a broken heart.

A new study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine found patients with atherosclerosis who lived alone had higher death rates than those who lived with a partner.

However, living arrangements did not appear to influence death risk after age 80.

Experts say people who live alone may be less likely to seek medical care when they need it. It could also be a sign of a stressful situation, like the death of a spouse or a new job.
