The start of the high school football season is right around the corner, and that means 10 big country head coaches are getting ready to lead new teams on to the field.

Starting in Class 3A, Craig Slaughter is out in Sweetwater, and Shane Mobley is the new leader of the Mustangs program. Slaughter left to take the same job in Llano. Mobley takes over a program that hasn't been to the playoffs in 3 years. He was the defensive coordinator for Sweetwater when they advanced to the state semifinals in 2005.

Aubrey Sims is the new head coach in Snyder. Sims replaces Chad Rogers, who left to take the head coaching job in Dennison.

One of the biggest changes in Class 2A came in Clyde. David Ritchey is out as the head coach of the Bulldogs after 3 years. He is replaced by Rocky Smart as the athletic director and head football coach. Smart takes over a program that is 15-16 in the last 3 years with just 1 playoff appearance. In Seymour, he was 27-11 in that same 3-year period with 3 playoff appearances, including last seasons trip to the quarterfinals.

Former Brownwod defensive coordinator Andy Howard is the new head coach in Brady. Justin Wiley takes over the Ballinger Bearcats program. Stephen Hermesmeyer is the leader in Comanche.

Hermesmeyer's move to Comanche from Winters leads to 1 of the coaching changes in Class A in the Big Country. Adam Bright takes over the Blizzards' program. He takes over a program that looks to be in great shape. The Blizzards have been to the playoffs 4 straight years with an appearance in the 3rd round in 2011.

Keith Woolf takes over in Anson for Cameron Cox. The Tigers were 0-10 in 2011. The Haskell Indians have a new leader. Grady Benton tries to revive a program that won just 1 game in 2012.
