Volunteer fire crews from Brookesmith, Winchell, Bangs and Early were called to the scene of a barn fire around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

According to Fire Marshal Buddy Preston, the owner of the property where the barn was located had been welding earlier in the day before the fire started.

The barn was located on a property in the 6200 block of FM 1176 near County Road 190 approximately 10 miles southwest of Brownwood.

Firefighters continued to "mop up the scene" until around 9:00 p.m. and planned to keep one truck on site for a while to make sure that the flames did not rekindle, according to fire officials.
