For Albany residents, and the rest of the Big Country, it's one of the most exciting and looked forward to events of the year. From dancing to dressing up, Fandangle really is fun for the entire family.

It all started with the senior class of Albany High School asked their English teacher to write their senior class play, called "Dr. Shackelford's Paradise."

"It was such a big hit that they decided to keep doing it every year," explains Lorna Ayers, one of the dozens of Fandangle cast members.

The event got its start on the high school football field, but it wasn't long before the fun outgrew their first hundred yards.

"It just grew and grew and grew," says Ayers, "and the town wanted to be involved in it. So years later, the fashioned an amphitheater out of a piece of land there in Albany, and that's where we hold the Fandangle today."

The theme for this year's festivities is "The Journey" and like always, the Fandangle will recount the history of Shackelford County through song and dance. And according to Ayers, each year gets better and better!

"The towns people are always involved," she explains. "It is all about Albany and it is all volunteer. People just turn out. It's a tradition in many families, including my own."

Ayers was initiated into the Fandangle family when she married her husband, who has been participating in the fun since he was two years old.
