Purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher Roy Oswalt (#44) from Triple-A Round Rock.
Placed first baseman Mitch Moreland on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Wednesday, with a left hamstring strain.
Designated right-handed pitcher Mark Hamburger for assignment.
Oswalt,
34, is scheduled to make his Texas debut in a start tonight against
Colorado. He made 4 minor league starts in the organization after
signing
with Texas on May 29, combining to go 1-1 with a 5.87 ERA (10 ER/15.1
IP), allowing 4 walks against 13 strikeouts. His last appearance in a
major league game was with Philadelphia in 2011 National League Division
Series Game 4 in St. Louis. The three-time
All-Star went 9-10 with a 3.69 ERA (57 ER/139.0 IP) in 23 games/starts
for the Phillies in 2011 and has a career 159-93 record with a 3.21 ERA
over 339 games/326 starts.
Moreland
left Tuesday's game in San Diego in the second inning after suffering
the hamstring injury while attempting to beat out a double play ball at
first base. He has batted .272 with 10 home runs and 25 RBI in 55 games
for Texas this season, starting a team-high 38 games at first base.
The earliest date he would be eligible to return is July 5.
Hamburger,
25, has spent the season with Triple-A Round Rock, going 0-2 with a
6.55 ERA (33 ER/45.1 IP) in 21 games/3 starts. The Rangers have 10 days
to trade, release, or outright Hamburger to the minor leagues.
With these moves, the Rangers still have a full 40-man roster.
