Abilene Regional Airport Projects Continue

By: Katie Thompson
Updated: June 25, 2012
Abilene Regional Airport is continuing reconstruction projects on some of its runways and taxiways.

The airport is using a $7 million improvement grant from the Federal Aviation Administration to fund the second half of reconstruction on one of its taxiways.

They will also replace the taxiway lights with new energy-efficient LED bulbs.

The airport will accept the grant at this week's Abilene City Council meeting, and expect construction to start in mid July.

The airport is also continuing to gather funding and support in its quest to bring a new airline to Abilene.

They're searching for local businesses to get involved by opening a western travel bank account to be matched up to 15 percent by the Development Corporation of Abilene.

Earlier this month the DCOA approved putting existing funds it gives the airport into the travel bank.

The funds will subsidize new air service if another airline decides to come to Abilene.
