APD: Repeat Shoplifters Return to Jail

At about 4:45 p.m. on Friday, Officer Kevin Ohnheiser was dispatched to a shoplifter call at a business in the 1600 block of Highway 351. APD Dispatch received notification from a loss prevention employee that a male suspect was detained after leaving the store with stolen merchandise. Officer Ohnheiser's investigation revealed that a male suspect had left the store without paying for merchandise. The merchandise was recovered and valued at approximately $108. A records check confirmed the loss prevention's allegation that the suspect had been warned previously not to return to the store. A records check also confirmed that the suspect had previous convictions for theft. The suspect was arrested on an enhanced felony theft charge based on previous convictions and was also charged with criminal trespass.

At about 1:25 a.m. Saturday, APD Dispatch received a call of a fight in progress in the vicinity of Marsalis and Janice Lane. APD Dispatch was informed that two males were fighting and that one of the males was bleeding. Officer Jerame Montgomery was dispatched to this injured subject call. Officer Montgomery learned that at least two male family members had been involved in a physical altercation and that a weapon had been used during the fight. Injuries sustained by the victim were not life-threatening and consisted of lacerations to the victims head. Two male suspects fled the scene prior to police arrival. The suspects were identified by name and the male victim was taken to a local hospital by ambulance. This aggravated assault investigation continues.

At about 1:45 p.m. Sunday, APD Dispatch received a call from a business in the 1600 block of Highway 351 and was informed by a loss prevention employee that they had an alleged shoplifter detained. Officer Roy Kirby was dispatched to the theft call and his investigation revealed that the alleged female suspect had concealed a cellphone and left the store without paying. The cellphone was recovered. A records check revealed that the suspect had been previously warned not to return to the store or she would face trespassing charges. The suspect was arrested for theft and criminal trespass.
