This year, as part of the Texas State Technical College (TSTC) Women's Leadership Institute's (WLI) mission to support the TSTC Values, each TSTC location -- Waco, Harlingen, Marshall and West Texas (Abilene, Brownwood, Breckenridge, Sweetwater) -- each did a community project on Saturday, June 23.

The Sweetwater group spoke with Russell Jones, City of Sweetwater Director of Public Works, about painting the picnic tables at Newman Park and he was thrilled with the idea. He has asked that the pillars of the pavilion be painted as well.

The group ordered and bought all supplies from Higginbotham in Sweetwater. Joni Coons and Kevin Shipp donated the money for the supplies.

Participants included Gail Lawrence, Kathleen Butler, James Butler, Trish Haigood, Mike Haigood, Teresa Adames, Jamie Adames, Griselda Sanchez, Irene Gill, Rene Ralston, Ryan Stark and Tyler Yarbro and included administration, faculty, staff and students. They painted 20-25 picnic tables and the pillars at the pavilion.
