Vandals Strike in Snyder, Leave Message for Police

A tagger who has hit several locations around Snyder is getting bolder -- and going through a lot more trouble to leave his mark.

Police are investigating a string of spray-paint graffiti in certain parts of the city, which they say are connected to the same person.

"It is the same name and the same style of writing," said Snyder Police Chief Terry Luecke, who said police are actively working the case to arrest the person or people responsible for the unsightly -- and at times vulgar -- vandalism that has hit various businesses and landmarks.

The city water tower on 24th Street and Ave. B was a recent target. The vandals had to scale an eight-foot chain link fence topped with three strands of barbed wire, then climb to the top of the tower. All four legs on the base of the tower were hit and the water tank was tagged on both sides.

The old Phillips 66 on Coliseum Drive was hit over the weekend with a personal message to law enforcement. Snyder Lanes also was a recent target.

Luecke said that the person responsible could face felony counts of criminal mischief, depending on the total damage.
