ABILENE, Texas - McMurry University's football team has yet to play its first athletic competition as an NCAA Division II school, yet senior quarterback Jake Mullin has already gained recognition for his on-field prowess. Mullin has been named a Beyond Sidelines Network (BSN)NCAA Division II Pre-Season All-American honorable mention for the 2012 season.

Mullin is coming off of a 2011 campaign in which he led the War Hawks to a 9-3 record during its final NCAA III season and first-ever trip to the NCAA playoffs, falling in the second round. Mullin threw for a career-best 3,371 yards and 29 touchdowns, an average of 306.5 yards per game over 11 contests. He completed nearly 64 percent (292-457) of his passes and had an efficiency rating of 140.2.

"Jake is a smart and athletic quarterback," McM head coach Hal Mumme said. "He will do well at any level of the game."

Mullin is approaching some lofty heights entering his final season, with numbers already leading most of the War Hawks categories. Mullin is the McMurry leader with 8,979 passing yards, 750 completions and a 63.6 completion percentage. He is second in passing attempts with 1,180 (needing 88 to tie for the No. 1 spot) and also second in touchdown passes at 89 (just four behind the top slot).

The War Hawks open the 2012 season on September 1 versus crosstown rival Abilene Christian at Shotwell Stadium.
