ACU received the Group III bronze medal in the categories of Single-Day Attendance Promotion and Single Newspaper Display Ad.
The ACU Christmas Slam was met with great enthusiasm by the student population, and easily attracted Moody Coliseum's largest crowd of the season by over 1,000 spectators. Festivities during the men's and women's basketball doubleheader included photos with Santa Claus, singing, dancing, free food, and other assorted prize drawings. ACU's social clubs also set up booths around the arena's concourse and distributed Christmas cookies and holiday drinks.
In-game activities included a Wobble line dance, teddy bear toss, and singings of Silent Night, and The Lord Bless You and Keep You.
John Houser, ACU's Assistant Athletics Director for Operations, was greatly appreciative of the national recognition received from his colleagues.
"This is a tremendous honor for Abilene Christian, which continually strives to remain at the forefront of athletics marketing," he said, "and we look forward to creating additional events that will further strengthen our ties within the Abilene community and our loyal fan base."
Initiated in 2003, the NACMA Best of Awards program honors outstanding achievement in marketing and promotions. Awards are presented in 13 categories, with each category divided into three groups based upon school size and conference affiliations to promote fairness. An association record of more than 950 awards entries were received for the 2011-12 year.
