Out of Colorado City comes a very unique craft that has many local residents lining up to order custom mesquite creations. KTAB's Nora Hartfeil was there to meet the artist and learn more about the process.
It is safe to assume that anything wooden in Buddy Compton's home has first gone through his workshop.
Compton says he can make anything out of wood.
It's hard to believe Compton has only been turning wood for the last ten years. Before that he worked in the public school system. But ever since retirement, his creative juices haven't stopped flowing.
Compton explains his creative process very simply.
"You take an old tree that's been growing out in the pasture, and you cut it, and you bring it in and start working with it. When you get through, you have something really really pretty"
Compton says his hobby makes gift giving around holidays and birthdays very easy
This labor-intensive hobby fills Compton's days, and his home with custom, handcrafted works of art.
