A 70-year-old woman reported that she was attempting to enter her home when an unknown suspect approached her from behind and grabbed hold of her purse that she had secured on her person.
During the theft of her purse, she fell to the ground and struck her head on the concrete, causing a large cut to the back of her head that required medical attention. Although dazed, the victim managed to see a suspect running away.
A witness also saw a person running at around the same time of this incident carrying a purse that matched the description of the victim's, and notified police.
Initial attempts to locate a possible suspect were unsuccessful, but detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division picked up the case and the suspect was positively identified during the investigation as 25-year-old Michael Anthony Rodriguez.
Rodriguez was arrested Wednesday, June 27 and charged with first-degree felony aggravated robbery.
He is currently in Taylor County Jail on $100,000 bond.
