Victim Identified in Deadly Motorcycle Wreck

The Abilene Police Department has identified the victim of Friday night's deadly motorcycle crash as 44-year-old Steven Ray Bishop of Abilene.

Police say Bishop was traveling southbound on the 322 access road, and lost control of his motorcycle where the access road curves into ES 27th Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say Bishop was not wearing a helmet.

Below is the full text of the Media Release sent by the Abilene Police Department:

ABILENE, TX - On Friday, June 29th, 2012 at approximately 9:48 p.m., the Abilene Police Department received a call of a major motorcycle crash in the 1400 block of East South 27th Street. Emergency responders arrived on scene and found a white male subject lying next to a motorcycle in the roadway.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the operator of the motorcycle was traveling southbound on Loop 322's service road (where the service road and East South 27th Street converge) and lost control while attempting to turn right onto East South 27th. The motorcycle crossed a lane of traffic and struck a guardrail before coming to rest a short distance away.

The sole occupant of the motorcycle, Steven Ray Bishop, a 44 year old male of Abilene, was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Frank Cleveland. Next of kin notification has been made. Bishop was not wearing a helmet.

This crash is currently under investigation by officers of the Abilene Police Department Traffic Division. The investigation is on-going. It is unknown if alcohol or drug use may have been a contributing factor in this crash at this time. More information may be released as it becomes available.
