APD: Late-Night Beer, Walk on Train Tracks Lands Man in Jail

On Saturday at about 2:35 a.m., Officer Damien Hutchinson observed a male subject walking on the railroad tracks in the 3300 block of South First Street. His investigation revealed that the subject was intoxicated and was drinking from a beer can during the contact. A records check revealed the man to have Taylor County traffic warrants. The subject was arrested for his warrants. During a search of the subjects personal property, prescription medication was located. The subject did not have a prescription for said medication. The subject was also arrested for possession of a dangerous drug (carisoprodol).
Sunday just before 7:00 p.m., Officer Chris Volirakis contacted a motorist in the 1800 block of Ambler Avenue he recognized as having possible outstanding warrants. During his investigation, the subject provided a false name and was warned on several occasions concerning the offense of failing to identify. His investigation confirmed the subject's true name and he was found to have two outstanding municipal warrants. He was arrested for the warrants and for failure to identify.
This morning at about 12:15, Officer Andrew Valdez contacted a motorist for a traffic violation in the 1700 block of North Seventh Street. Before contacting the motorist, Officer Valdez also observed the driver weaving within the traffic lane and driving abnormally slow. Officer Valdez contacted the male driver of the vehicle and during his investigation he smelled the odor of alcohol coming from the driver. The driver also showed signs of intoxication. The driver was given field sobriety tests which he failed. During the investigation an open container of alcohol was also located inside the vehicle. The driver was arrested and taken to jail where he provided breath samples. Breath samples taken revealed the driver's BAC to be 0.176 and 0.182. The driver was charged with an enhanced felony charge of driving while intoxicated (DWI) based on previous DWI convictions.
