Snyder City Council to Discuss Land Annexation

By: Snyder Daily News
Updated: July 2, 2012
For the first time in several months the Snyder City Council will not consider taking action on pets or dilapidated buildings when it meets tonight.

The council will consider an ordinance to annex 5.518 acres of land into the city limits and to schedule public hearings on the annexation. The land will be the site of the expected Walmart Supercenter, which the company previously announced would be built.

In making the announcement last year, Walmart officials did not know where the store would be built.

The land is located on the east side of the intersection of South College Ave. and Houston Parkway, across from the Cogdell Family Clinic.

The council will also consider several items related to utilities, including entering negotiations for energy conservation improvements at the water and waste water treatment facilities; base meter fees, without consumption, for the Union/ Fluvanna Water Supply; an amendment to the Colorado River Municipal Water District member cities contract; and the city's continued participation with the steering committee of cities served by Oncor.

There will also be an update, with possible action, on the 2012-13 budget. The city has scheduled two hearings for the tax rate in August.

The council will meet at 5:30 p.m. at Snyder City Hall.
