They're they guys in blue that help keep your neighborhoods safe, but they can't do it without your help, and your tips. We sat down with the man in charge of Crime Stoppers to find out how it all comes together.

Crime Stoppers is a tool used in conjunction with the Abilene Police Department to help capture wanted criminals around the area.

"A lot of people don't realize that we are a non-profit organization, not funded by any tax dollars," explains Rick Dorman, Executive Director for Crime Stoppers in Abilene. "All of our funding comes from our fundraisers, our foundations, grant money and private donations."

And the impact Crime Stoppers has on getting the bad guys off the streets and behind bars has been felt for the past 31 years the organization has been in existence.

While the organization does give up to $200 dollars in award money for tips that lead to an arrest, Dorman says not every tipster is reporting crimes in order to get their hands on the cash reward.

"There's a lot of reasons for why people wont call the police, but they will call crime stoppers because we offer that anonymity," Dorman explains.
