This year, thousands will be heading to Nelson Park for the Second Aannual Wes-Tex Connect Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular.

While the event is free and open to the public, certain areas will be designated for those taking advantage of the VIP Packages.

"The thing that people will really want to know about are the VIP passes and VIP parking, which is going to make it a little less stressful especially if you have little ones," says Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau Director of Communications Trish Dressen. "It's just a really great place to celebrate our independence day, celebrate our country and celebrate the hard work of the men and women in our air force, especially with Dyess."

The Second Annual Wes-Tex Connect Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular will kick off early Wednesday evening for VIP pass holders.

The VIP Package is $100 and includes four VIP tickets, a parking pass, zoo admitance and Sharon's Barbeque all at the event.

V.I.P. Pass holders can enjoy the festivities from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. before the fireworks show begins at 10, which is open to the public to view outside the VIP area.

There are quite a few other activities in and around town that folks can look forward to.

Just a few miles outside of town, the Buffalo Gap Historic Village will also host their annual 4th of July celebration.

A parade begins at 9:30 a.m., and there will be many festivities and activities available for the public to enjoy all day through 4 p.m. that are open and free to the public.
