"My car broke down on me and I couldn't buy one of them $200 cars anymore like you used to so I had to build this to get around on," says Randal Duval.

How he designed his vehicle is quite interesting.

He explains, "Took my daughter's bicycle, I ended up getting her another one, but I put a motor on it "

Randal Duval took some typical garage appliances and put together a well-oiled machine.

"I've got an electric motor on the side car. A 24-volt scooter motor that I'm just hitting with a 12-volt truck battery with this light switch. I just hit it and start pedaling it," he says.

Although he has gone through his fair share of tires, and chains, he says it does not look like it will be wearing out any time soon.

He says, "Instead of a hybrid I call it a thrybrid because you've got three types of power- electric, gas and pedal."

It even comes with a security system- his dog.

"This is my car alarm. She goes off all the time," he says.

Duval saves a lot of money by using his alternative mode of transportation.

"I get 160 miles per gallon on it. It's got over 125 miles on it," he says.

He has traveled so much on his thrybrid it is hard to remember why he even had a car to begin with.

"I really don't want a vehicle no more. I like riding this," says Duval.

Great story! And the news media was fair and not condescending. I really enjoy news stories about local people that are just trying to make their way in life, that are respectful and informative. I would like to see a local at attorney help him with pattens. Randal Duval just might be on his way to helping millions of people with an inexpensive way to get around. Chihuahuas make Great car alarms!
