By: Officer George Spindler, APD
Updated: July 3, 2012
Last night at about 8:15, Officer Shawn Montgomery was dispatched to a disturbance call at North 13th and Grape Streets. APD Dispatch had been notified by a concerned citizen about a male subject driving a pickup truck repeatedly by his house. The calling party eventually followed the suspicious person in his own vehicle and provided a description of the vehicle to APD Dispatch. Officer Montgomery located the vehicle and contacted the male driver in the 2900 block of North 12th Street. Officer Montgomery smelled the odor of alcohol coming from the driver. The driver was given field sobriety tests which he failed. The driver was arrested and taken to jail where he provided breath samples. Breath samples taken revealed the driver's BAC to be 0.160 and 0.153. The driver was charged with driving while intoxicated.

Last night at about 10:45, Officer Jimmy Woods was dispatched to a disturbance in the 2800 block of North Sixth Street. A calling party had notified APD Dispatch that her daughter had been in a sexual relationship with a male suspect and was upset about the matter. Sgt. Jason Haak assisted in this investigation. The male suspect was present upon police arrival. The investigation revealed that the suspect had sexual intercourse with a female minor under the age of 14. The suspect was arrested for aggravated sexual assault of a child. This investigation continues.

Last night at about 11:15, Officer Damien Hutchinson attempted to contact a motorist after observing the motorist accelerate quickly while traveling eastbound on South 14th Street. Officer Hutchinson confirmed the motorist was speeding after pacing the motorist and activated his emergency lights. The motorist initially failed to stop promptly and continued to drive until stopping around South 15th Street. As soon as the motorist stopped the vehicle, at least two occupants got out and fled on foot. Officer Hutchinson gave chase and helped establish a perimeter. Officer Hutchinson later found one male subject hiding in the backyard of a residence in the 1600 block of Woodard Street. This subject was arrested but another male subject was not located. The investigation also revealed a clear pipe located inside the vehicle contained a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine. The male subject was arrested for possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and for evading detention.
