Brownwood Police arrested a man early Thursday morning for driving while intoxicated after his vehicle collided with a utility pole on the corner of Melwood and Gill.

Police, Brownwood Fire Department and Guardian EMS responded shortly after midnight Thursday to the report of a one-vehicle accident. A Brown County Sheriff's deputy also responded to the scene to assist with a language barrier between officers and the suspect.

After investigating the incident, 26-year-old Neri Herrera-Jemenez was arrested for DWI, according to police reports. He was taken to Brownwood Regional Medical Center by police for a blood draw and transported to Brown County Jail.

The suspect's vehicle struck and broke the utility pole at the intersection. Workers are scheduled to replace the pole.
