A neighbor just two houses down from the fire was frightened for his own home. "When I first walked out it was just engulfed in flames, that's what it appeared," says Pete Castillo.
The Abilene Fire Department says the fire was contained and put out within one hour of the phone call, after 23 firefighters aggressively worked to prevent it from spreading.
"The firemen really had it controlled and contained over there so it was all blocked off. It was pretty much all in their hands by the time I got up," says Castillo.
Although the home is completely damaged from inside out, the fire did not spread to any other homes. However, it does leave neighbors feeling concerned. "I look at a lot of things. Now I'm looking closer at my house and little things that could happen, that I could eliminate maybe," Castillo says.
Neighbors say there were either one or two residents living in that house, but AFD says there was no electricity on or running water in the home, and those residing in there were most likely vagrants.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Currently there is no one living the house.
