Police Searching for Driver Responsible for Friday Night Gas Leak

Police are still looking for the driver of the car that hit a gas line Friday night, causing a major leak.

The case is now in the hands of the hit and run investigator.

At around 10:30 Friday night, crews responded to a wreck on the 3000 block of Newman Road near East Highway 80. 

A vehicle hit an 8-inch natural gas pipeline, causing a major leak. 

Citizens who called 911 reported smelling a strong stench of gas up to three miles away.

Police blocked off the area while Atmos Energy shut off the valve.
