For the past 12 years, Sam Guthrie has been working to clean up what he calls "prime interstate property." Today he is finally finishing up the work.

The last four of the eight fuel tanks that used to be a part of the White Elephant Truck Stop are being pulled from the ground today and the TCEQ has given the property the all clear.

The facility is a Stripes, who plans to put a truck stop and two restaurants on the property on one condition.

The Stripes Corporation actually contacted Texas Petition Strategies to get the ball rolling on getting a petition started.

Citizens sign the petition in hopes of getting the matter on the November ballot.

Many local businesses think it is a great idea.

Brookshiers Grocer jumped on board, as well as the local chamber of commerce

They need 600 signatures and they have to be turned in Thursday morning to see if its on the November ballot.
