A man reported the aggravated robbery just before 10:00 Sunday morning, and although they were able to recover some of the victim's stolen belongings, they were unable to locate the suspect.
Officers responded to a call of a fight where one person had a pistol near South 14th and Butternut later Sunday evening, and when they arrived and tried to contact the armed suspect, he fled.
After the ensuing chase, the suspect was caught in the 1200 block of Elm Street with a semi-automatic handgun.
Further investigation revealed that the pistol was the one used in the earlier armed robbery, and items stolen in that robbery were also recovered.
Police arrested 19-year-old Lawrence Jacob Billups and charged him with evading arrest and aggravated robbery.
He is currently in the Taylor County Jail on bonds totaling more than $150,000.
