If you're looking to get your children a new pair of shoes in time for back to school, but money is a little tight, an event is taking place right here in town to help.

The Abilene Board of Realtors is teaming up with the Salvation Army for their annual "Walk With Pride" event in August.

The board of realtors spends the year fundraising to buy nearly 700 new pairs of shoes and socks, while the Salvation Army helps out by screening applicants and providing volunteers at the event.

"If you can't provide shoes for your children, you just don't have the money, don't feel like they have to go without simply because you don't have the money," says Major James Parrish of the Salvation Army. "Regardless of income, to have a new pair of shoes the first day they go to school, that means everything to a child."

Children 12 years and younger are eligible to for the program.

All parents have to do is stop by the Salvation Army office and fill out a one-page application prior to school starting in August.
