For the 2nd week in a row, the Cooper Cougars are playing in one of the best match ups of the week. The Cougars and head coach Todd Moebes are headed south for a game with Cedar Park. The Timberwolves are the 2nd straight state ranked opponent for the Cougars. Cedar Park enters the 2012 season ranked 2nd in Class 4A after advancing to the 4th round of the playoffs. The Cougars will have to find a way to move the ball through a stingy Timberwolves defense, and the Cooper defense will be challenged by a tough running game by Cedar Park.

Class A features the best match up of 2 schools from the Big Country. The Stamford Bulldogs and the Munday Moguls get together in Munday in Week 1. This game features Texas Football Super Team member Hagen Hutchinson for Stamford and Texas Football Class A Player of the Year Dee Paul for Munday. Stamford went to the state championship game in 2011 where they lost to Mason. Munday went to the title game where they lost to Tenaha. The Moguls enter the 2012 season as the top ranked team in Class A Division 2. The Bulldogs are the 2nd ranked team in the state in Division 1.

The Merkel Badgers have their hands full in Week 1 of the 2012 season. The Badgers host number 5 Wall in a battle of Class 2A teams. The Hawks enter the game looking for their 3rd straight victory over Merkel. The Badgers don't have Frankie Harris at running back anymore, but Baylor Mullins is back at quarterback, safety, kicker and punter for his Dad and head coach Kieth Mullins. Wall comes to town with 11 positions filled with starters from last years Regional Finalists. Wall is expected to win District 3-2A Division 1. The Badgers are picked to finish 3rd in District 4-2A in Division 1.

Here are the best of the rest from Week 1. The Clyde Bulldogs take on #2 Cisco in the 1st game of the Champions Classic on that Thursday night. The Friday night game of the Champions Classic is the 2nd honorable mention game of Week 1. The Abilene High Eagles play Duncanville. Abilene High has never lost in the Classic.
