Abilene Water Usage Down

By: Katie Thompson
Updated: July 11, 2012
Rainfall and cooler temperatures this summer season means Abilene residents are using less water and helping the city conserve.

From January through June of 2012, the city's water usage dropped 200 million gallons.

Daily usage is down as well.

July 10 showed a 40 percent decrease compared to last year.

The city's water department says residents are watering their lawns less on their respective days due to some moisture in the air.

The city says lake levels have not increased enough to change the once per week watering restrictions, however.
