Updated: July 12, 2012
A Snyder woman is in jail after breaking into an apartment on the square -- where she was confronted by the resident with a firearm.

The 28-year-old broke out a window on an upstairs apartment at 1712 25th Street before realizing that the person who lived there was still home. The incident was reported at 7:05 a.m. Wednesday.

The tenant heard the commotion and grabbed a gun and detained the woman until police arrived.

The woman made it into the house before she was discovered and is in jail charged with misdemeanor criminal trespass.

Police Chief Terry Luecke said the woman told police she was just looking for somewhere to stay.

Investigators could not ascertain if her intent was to rob the apartment, which is why she was not charged with burglary, the chief added.
