The Paramount Classic Film series is back at the classic theatre this weekend with the featured film, "The Big Country." Fitting for our town, right? This frontier drama is about a man who retires from sea life to head west and highlights the stunning Western plain landscape. Show times are Friday and Saturday night at 7:30 pm and Saturday afternoon at 2 pm. Cost is $6 for adults, $5 for students, senior citizens, military and children. Call 325-676-9620 for more information.
Interested in the Civil War? This month's Buffalo Gap Historic Village's Chautauqua Learning Series features speaker Dixie Hoover who delves into this war's fascinating history. Hoover, Site Manager for the Confederate Reunion Grounds, explains the history of "Old Val Verde" and the lengths the Confederates went to keep the cannon out of Union hands. Join Hoover in the R. Lee and Ann Rode Gallery from 11-12:30 on Saturday for this lecture. Admission is free for members and $7 for non-members. Need more information? Call 325-572-3365. The Historic Village will also host their monthly Military Appreciation Day on Sunday from noon to 6 pm. All active, retired military and their families receive free admission to the Village: take the short drive and enjoy.
Family Fun Saturday at the National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature is a family favorite of mine for sure. Stop by the NCCIL from 1 pm to 4 pm on Saturday to work with the NCCIL's art educators to create your very own unique work of art using a similar style and medium of the featured artist in the gallery, Dr. Seuss. All the kiddos in my family and their friends love the opportunity to make their masterpieces and I love the price: free. Call 325-673-4586 if you have questions.
Have you stopped by the Grace Museum to take in their "Cross Currents Exhibition?" I have to say it is simply breathtaking. I even had a hard time explaining to our little ones that some were actually paintings and not photographs. Please take the time to stop in and see three different generations of artistic influence as told through three separate exhibits. Visit thegracemuseum.org for call 325-673-4587 for more information.
