Search for WTC President will Take some Time

The search for the next president of Western Texas College will not be a rush-job, according to the president of the college's board of trustees.

Lee Presswood said Friday that 27 resumes have been submitted for the post. The board is looking for its sixth president in the 41-year history of the school.

Dr. Mike Dreith, former president, resigned last month to become the president of John A. Logan College in Illinois.

Friday was the final day to submit resumes. However, since the college is on a four-day work week, the final number of applicants will not be known until Monday.

"We are expecting some more," Presswood said.

He said the applicants are coming from throughout the nation, including Alaska, California, Illinois, New Jersey, Connecticut and Texas. One resume came from the country of Oman.

Last week, board members received all the resumes on file.

The seven men are currently reviewing those resumes. Presswood said once all of the paperwork is reviewed, the board will get together, during a closed session, and rank the candidates.

"With that, we can see where we stand," he said. "We will continue to discuss the applicants before beginning the elimination process."

Presswood added that the board has not set up a time frame to select Dreith's successor. "We are not rushing into anything. We will not do any interviews until the faculty and staff is back on campus."

Once the process gets down the finalists, Presswood said background checks will be performed and a decision about who will be interviewed will be made.

"We want to make sure we have the best fit for our college," he said.
