"Cody being from Brownwood that was a special push for us to do some special cards for him and this is just a start I'm sure we'll have a lot more," said Danny Willingham, executive director of the Boys and Girls Club in Brownwood.
They're each writing get well letters to mail out to the Brownwood High School graduate.
He's is in a Calif. hospital after being injured on duty in Afghanistan.
It all began as an idea by several members of the VFW Post 3278 Ladies Auxiliary League who know just how special words can be.
"Positive thinking I think is a big part of the healing process," said Jane Masters, a member of the Post and former military soldier who served in Bosnia.
This project isn't just for kids. Anybody can stop by the Brownwood Chamber of Commerce and drop off their letter to Cody Williams.
The women at the Ladies Auxiliary say they have no limits to the amount of letters they'll be mailing out.
"All of them mean something," said Joyce Leidig, a member of the Post.
They say the words of support and prayers are already making a difference.
"Cody's doing so much better and they said they thought it was because of all the prayers," said Leidig.
Because when it comes down to it- these are much more than just cards.
Says Ledig, "If you're a soldier laying in the hospital and you've been hurt and you're laying there and you don't know if any ones praying for you and then you get these 500 cards from home and you go through them and each one says something different. So our community loves and supports our military and thanks them for what they do."
Anyone who wants to mail Williams a card has until august third to turn in their letters.
The women of the Ladies Auxiliary will mail out the cards to Williams family who's currently with the sailor in Calif.
Williams graduated from Brownwood High School in 2004.
He was injured last week in the line of duty while riding in a Humvee that was hit by an explosive device.
