Yesterday at about 5:15 p.m., Officer Chris Volirakis was dispatched to a drunken driver call in the 2100 block of Treadaway Boulevard. APD Dispatch had been notified by an off-duty DPS trooper that a male subject was driving recklessly and that the driver had almost caused multiple collisions. Officer Volirakis arrived and observed that the trooper had already contacted the male driver. Officer Volirakis' investigation revealed that the male driver showed signs of intoxication. The driver performed field sobriety tests which he failed. Officer Volirakis also discovered an open container of alcohol in the subject's vehicle. The driver was arrested for driving while intoxicated (with open container) and provided a blood sample. This investigation continues.
Just before 2:00 this morning, Officer Steffen Hartness was dispatched to a disturbance call. Officer Gabriel Thompson assisted on this call and met with a female victim in the 600 block of Butternut Street. The victim alleged that she had been assaulted by her boyfriend at a residence in the 800 block of Elm Street. The investigation revealed that the female victim had been struck on multiple occasions and choked during the assault. The victim had visible injuries consistent with said allegations. The male subject was contacted at his residence and claimed he had not been assaulted. The male subject was arrested for felony assault family violence.
