Hermleigh ISD Board to Vote on Testing Resolution

By: Snyder Daily News
Updated: July 17, 2012
The Hermleigh ISD board will consider a resolution concerning high-stakes standardized testing at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The resolution has been signed by more than 360 school boards in Texas concerned about the emphasis on standardized testing and the reliance on the high-stakes tests.

Part of the resolution reads: "The over reliance on standardized, high-stakes testing as the only assessment of learning that really matters in the state and federal accountability systems is strangling our public schools and undermining any chance that educators have to transform a traditional system of schooling into a broad range of learning experiences."

The board also will consider the Internet safety policy and Texas Association of School Boards policy updates, as well as hear reports from the superintendent, including an update on construction.

Prior to adjourning, board members will hold a budget workshop.
