Think your dachshund is the fastest in the Big Country? You'll have a chance to prove it Thursday, July 19th at the 2012 Rescue the Animals Dachshund Races.

The fun gets started around 6:30 p.m. with the Rescued Dog Reunion Show where pups of all shapes and sizes will compete for various prizes, including shortest, tallest, and even fattest.

"Any rescued dog, any breed," explains Rescue The Animals President, Paul Washburn, "it's kind of like a Westminister dog show for rescued dogs."

According to Washburn, there will even be a Homecoming Queen and King crowned at the event along with a Miss Congeniality.

This year marks the 5th Annual dog races for Rescue the Animals, with winners receiving more than just bragging rights.

"We give them a humongous trophy for the grand champion," explains Washburn.

Of course, that all depends on the dogs actually getting off the starting line.

"Most of the time at least two or three will run in circles," says Washburn. "It's absolutely hilarious!"
