This weekend Texas landowners and hunters from across the Lonestar state will gather together to celebrate the 21st Annual Texas Big Game Awards with the Texas Wildlife Association.

According to Texas Wildlife Association representative Glen Webb, hunting and fishing provides the Lonestar state's economy with nearly 16 billion dollars in revenue each year.

"That's a huge benefit for the Big Country and for farmers and ranchers across the state," says Webb.

One of the missions of the Big Game Awards, according to Webb, is highlighting the impact hunting plays on conservation of local wildlife.

This weekend's award ceremonies will honor hunters and gamers from El Paso to the Panhandle and Fort Worth.

"We're also recognizing first time harvesters," adds Webb. "We'll have a 5 year old that will be recognized and we'll have an 89 year old that will be recognized for harvesting their first native game animal in the state of Texas."

Webb says there will be plenty of activities for the entire family to take part in during the awards, including a shooting contest for youth.
