APD Staffing Keeps Officers Busy

By: Kristin Anderson
Updated: July 18, 2012
It's a busy time for the Abilene Police Department, and some officers are working a little bit extra to help keep residents safe.

Though the number of sworn officers shows a full staff, APD is a little short until 20 cadets graduate and are fully on their own in November.

This means some officers have to pull some longer shifts, but the department is prepared for this, as the hiring process takes about two full years.

APD says there's always minimal staffing, so Abilene residents can always depend on officers being available.

"At any given time during the day of the week, there are a minimum number of officers needed to provide effective police services," says Chief Stan Standridge. "And at any given time, we know exactly the minimum amount of officers that have to be on duty to ensure that all service calls are answered."
