The Burns decided to answer their son's prayer or at least try. Zel was 41 at the time. She thought her odds of getting pregnant without assistance were slim, After a few discouraging months and a failed pregnancy the Burns decided they were done.
She went to the doctors to discuss fertility options and discovered she was pregnant. That was just the beginning of their surprises. Zel wasn't only expecting but she was pregnant with triplets. Zel wasn't only expecting... but she was pregnant with triplets.
Zel's husband, Errol Burns was in complete shock. He says, "as bad as i wanted a child, never could I imagine three at one time."
Dr. Brian Kirshon, an OBGYN, who specializes in high risk obstetrics notes just how rare his patient's case is, especially conceiving multiples without infertility treatment
"The incidence of spontaneous triplets is one in 6,400. That's a pretty rare situation and then to compound that with identical triplets. That case is probably one in one million. It's extremely uncommon."
Exceptional indeed and challenged from the start...
At Zel's 19th week, doctors discovered a condition called twin to twin transfusion. This condition is when one baby is taking all the fluids and nutrients from the other. Zel and her husband were forced to decide to lose one of their baby girls to save the others.
Still the Burns call is a miracle that Zel is carrying two babies and is now in her 34th week of pregnancy and on bed rest.
Meanwhile, big brother is more than ready to welcome his baby sisters and Errol is ready to do what dad's do best, dote on his daughters.
