Poop Scoop Business Thrives In Abilene

Updated: July 23, 2012
If your back hurts from bending down to clean up after your dog every day, take a breather! One Abilene business is ready to do the dirty work for you.

The name says it all, Haulin' Doody specializes in dog doo so you can enjoy the finer parts of life with your pup, and as owner and creator Turner Darby explains, business is booming!

"We go to people's houses and scoop up their, uh, dog mess, or doody as we like to call it," he explains. "It's gone real well, we have a lot of customers and commercial accounts, so we've really been picking up business."

Literally. And in West Texas it's a job that comes with a few challenges straight from mother nature herself.

"Definitely the heat has a lot to do with it, no doubt," says Darby. "We drink a lot of water!"

And when the thermometer sours, Darby's job becomes a little harder for more reasons than one. As Darby says himself, "it doesn't help with the smell either."

But Darby says when it comes to satisfying his customers, it's all worth it.

"Just the fact that people are so appreciative of it," he explains, "it's been really good."

So even though Darby isn't living his dream job, he says it will definitely make for a good story to tell the grand kids. Until then though, Darby hopes you'll give him a call so he can clean up your yard.
