The studio behind "The Dark Knight Rises" has been in talks with Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper's office, insiders say. Although an official announcement hasn't been made, reports say it plans to donate funds through GivingFirst.org, a program of Colorado's Community First Foundation.
It's unclear how much the studio will give to charity, but sources tell THR that the amount is "substantial."
Friday's movie theater shooting in Aurora, Colo., took place during a midnight screening of Christopher Nolan's third Batman film. It left 12 dead and dozens more injured.
Shortly after the attack, the studio released this statement: "Warner Bros. is deeply saddened to learn about this shocking incident. We extend our sincere sympathies to the families and loved ones of the victims at this tragic time."
It also canceled the movie's Paris premiere and press interviews. After the shooting, Warner Bros. pulled the trailer for its film "Gangster Squad," which featured a scene of mobsters firing machine guns at people in a movie theater. Now, according to E! News, the studio is considering pushing back the Sept. 7 release date of the film, which stars Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn and Emma Stone. Entertainment Weekly reports that the scene could be edited or completely removed, but nothing has been finalized yet.
