Brown County Farmers Eligible For USDA Disaster Emergency Loans

By: Scott Anderson, BrownwoodNews.com
Updated: July 26, 2012
Brown County was declared eligible for Farm Service Agency (FSA) disaster emergency loans. Secretarial Disaster Declaration #S3288 covers damages and losses caused by drought from January 1, 2012 and continuing. Applications are for production and physical Losses. The final day to apply for this Declaration is March 12, 2013.

Generally, that means that farmers who have lost at least 30 percent of their production or suffered any physical loss due to these losses listed on these declarations during the time period are eligible for FSA loans. Proceeds from crop insurance and/or hazard insurance are taken into consideration when determining a producer's eligibility and total loss.

Cody Norris, Brown County FSA, urges farmers who are interested in receiving an emergency loan to submit their applications into FSA as soon as possible. It is hoped farmers will get their applications in early rather than waiting until near the deadline. The longer farmers wait, the more chance there are for long delays. If the applications come in early, backlogs can be avoided and the process can be speeded up. Contact the Brown County FSA Office at 325-643-1587 for more information.
