Abilene to Place Warning Markers on Storm Drains

By: City of Abilene News Release
Updated: July 27, 2012
In the coming weeks, the City of Abilene's Stormwater Services Division will place markers on strategically placed, sub-surface drains around town. These markers will read "NO DUMPING - DRAINS TO WATERWAY."

Storm drain marking serves as an educational tool to remind people of the connection between storm drains and local water resources.

These visual reminders will help make citizens aware that allowing pollutants to enter the city's waterways could have a negative effect on our water quality.

"Storm drains flow into our creeks and anything harmful dumped in these drains can end up in our drinking water supply," said Nicole Eaves, Stormwater Education Coordinator. "The new storm drain markers will encourage everyone to be responsible for our waterways."

Stormwater runoff can pick up litter, yard waste, pet waste, sediment from construction sites and other pollutants that end up in storm drains and can harm our water sources and environment.

For more information, please contact Stormwater Education Coordinator Nicole Eaves at 325-734-3301 or send an e-mail to nicole.eaves@abilenetx.com.
