Crime Report: Traffic Violation Leads to Drug Bust

Friday night at about 9:45, Officer Adam Lopez attempted to contact a motorist in the 3200 block of South 5 Street for a traffic violation. However, the vehicle did not stop until pulling into a driveway. Both the driver and passenger, both males, exited the vehicle and were detained. Officer Lopez was assisted by other officers and soon learned that a handgun was lying in plain view inside the vehicle. The driver was found to be in possession of a another handgun that was on his person. During this investigation, the passenger was found to have three outstanding warrants for his arrest. The investigation also revealed that one of the handguns had been reported to be stolen.
Drug paraphernalia was also lying in plain view during this investigation. A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of approximately 50 grams of methamphetamine, 2 grams of cocaine, one gram of marijuana, medications without a prescription, and assorted drug paraphernalia consisting of packaging materials and measuring scales. The investigation revealed that the driver had possession of these contraband items. The driver was arrested on six criminal charges: felony manufacturing and delivery of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), felony manufacturing and delivery of controlled substance (cocaine), felony theft, unlawful carrying of a weapon, possession of a controlled substance (alprazolam) and possession of marijuana. The passenger was arrested on his three warrants.
On Sunday night at about 7:50, Officer Anthony Joeris was dispatched to a disturbance call at a residence in the 1300 block of Ross Avenue. APD Dispatch had been notified that a known female subject who lived at the residence was using a hammer to damage property belonging to a male subject that was in the process of moving out of the residence. Officer Joeris' investigation revealed that APD officers had previously been summoned to the residence approximately 10 minutes prior while a male subject began moving out of the residence. Officers left the residence because all parties involved with the move agreed things would remain civil. However, the female subject became upset during the move and produced a hammer and began damaging property that belonged to the male victim. Estimated damage to the victim's electronics was approximately $4,000.00. The female subject was arrested for felony criminal mischief.
Early this morning at about 12:40, Officer David Cox responded to a check welfare call at a residence in the 1000 block of Plaza Street. The calling party, a father who lives at the residence, had gone to a local convenience store and called the police because he feared for his life after reporting he was having problems with his son. Officers learned that the man's son was at the residence and had allegedly produced a sawed-off shotgun that he pointed at the father after threatening to kill his father and himself. The investigation revealed that the son had garnered a firearm but the son denied the allegations. However, the son revealed that the firearm in question was no longer at the residence and the police would no longer be able to find it. The son was arrested for felony aggravated assault family violence.
