Rangers Reinstate Mitch Moreland

Updated: July 30, 2012
Arlington, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced this afternoon that the club has reinstated first baseman/outfielder Mitch Moreland from the 15-day disabled list.  To make room for Moreland on the active roster, the club has optioned outfielder Leonys Martin to Triple-A Round Rock.

Moreland was placed on the disabled list on June 22 (retroactive to June 20) with a left hamstring strain, an injury suffered while running out a ground ball in his last big league game on June 19 at San Diego.  He combined to go 5-for-19 with 2 doubles, an RBI, and 4 runs scored in 5 games on rehabilitation assignments with Round Rock (July 23-24) and Frisco (July 27-29).  He made 3 starts at first base and 2 as the designated hitter.

Moreland has a .272 average with 10 home runs and 25 RBI in 55 games with Texas this season.  He has a total of 42 starts for the Rangers this season, including a team-high 38 starts at first base.

Martin was recalled on June 15 when Koji Uehara went on the disabled list, batting .189 with 4 doubles, 2 triples, and 5 RBI in 15 games for Texas.  He has spent the rest of the year at Round Rock.

With these moves, the Rangers still have a full 40-man roster.
