Each paint stroke triggers long lost memories.

The artists have all been diagnosed with some form of dementia.

Memories in the Making is a program dedicated to helping them remember.

It's also a way to measure each of the patients progress.

Some of the paintings from the weekly program will even be featured at an auction to help support Big Country families dealing with the disease.

There are already more than three hundred thousand people in Texas alone with dementia.

That numbers supposed to double by 2025.

Experts say painting is a great way to exercise the mind.

They may look like simple drawings, but to each of these artists  its a treasure chest of valuable memories.

The Windcrest Alzheimer's center will also be hosting an Artwalk showcasing a few of the pieces of art from memories in the making.

That will be held in downtown Abilene on Sept. 13.

A special  auction featuring some of the artwork will be held next April.
