Crime Report: Shot Fired into Woman's Front Door

By: Officer George Spindler, APD
Updated: July 31, 2012
Last night at about 8:05, officers were dispatched to a random shooting call at a residence in the 2000 block of South Clack Street. APD Dispatch had been notified by a concerned citizen that a gunshot was heard and that the suspect had shot what the caller believed to be the door to the victim's residence. Officer Brandon Scott arrived on scene and learned that a female victim was standing near the doorway to her residence, with her 1-year-old child next to her, when a known male suspect exited his vehicle and fired a handgun at her residence. The victim stated that she feared for her life during this shooting incident. The suspect then fled in the same vehicle. A description of the suspect and suspect vehicle was quickly disseminated to the Patrol Division.  The male suspect was contacted in the 700 block of Leggett Drive near his residence. Detective John Wilson from the Criminal Investigation Division was summoned and assisted in this investigation. The investigation revealed that the male suspect knew the female victim and they had a disagreement just before the shooting. A search of the suspect's vehicle led to the recovery of a .357 caliber handgun. A witness assisted in positively identifying the suspect as the shooter. The investigation revealed that the male suspect fired one round from the recovered handgun and that the round was found inside the residence. A records check revealed that the suspect was a convicted felon. The suspect was arrested for aggravated assault. This investigation continues.

Last night at about 9:55 pm, Sgt. Jason Haak, assisted by a K-9 officer, contacted a motorist in the 700 block of Merchant Street for a traffic violation. The vehicle was occupied with three male subjects. During this investigation the K-9 alerted on the vehicle for the presence of narcotics. The vehicle was searched and medications linked to subject one were found.  Subject one did not possess a prescription for those medications. All the occupants of the vehicle were searched. Subject two was in possession of a switch blade knife. The investigation revealed that subject three had hidden the narcotic medication to avoid its detection. Subject one was arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance (oxycontin), subject two was arrested for misdemeanor possession of a prohibited weapon and subject three was arrested for felony tampering with evidence.

At about 3:00 this morning, Officer Rusty Antilley contacted a motorist in the 400 block of East North 8 Street because the motorist had just exited Stevenson Park which was closed at that time; a municipal code violation. A K-9 officer assisted in this traffic stop. During the investigation, Officer Antilley observed a plastic bag that contained a leafy substance and an off-white substance.  The K-9 alerted on the vehicle for the presence of narcotics. The substance tested positive for cocaine. The subject was arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance (cocaine).
