The Electric Reliability Council of Texas is asking consumers to conserve during peek electricity hours from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

They ask that residents delay laundry at home and other activities requiring electricity consuming appliances until later in the evening.

Ercot recommends closing your blinds to keep heat out in the cool in and using the microwave to cook instead of electric ranges.

Another means of censerving energy is to avoid opening you refrigerator more then necessary and, if you have a pool, set your pump to run in the morning.

They are also asking businesses to do the same and minimize the use of lighting and electricity consuming equipment as much as possible.

They even say large consumers of electricity should consider shutting down or reducing non-essential production processes

If the capacity is not relieved, Ercot says they will instruct utilities to reduce demand on the grid by conducting temporary outages, each lasting about 15 to 45 minutes.
