Crime Report: Intoxicated Man Drives Car Wrong Direction, Officers Called

Friday morning at about 12:10, Officer Mack Garrett contacted a motorist in the 200 block of Butternut Street for a traffic violation. Officer Garrett contacted the male driver. The vehicle was also occupied with a male passenger. The driver advised Officer Garrett that he had a warrant for his arrest. During this contact, Officer Garrett observed open beer bottles on the floor board of the vehicle next to the passenger's feet and confirmed that they contained alcohol. The driver was arrested and the passenger was removed from the vehicle. During a search of the vehicle for more open containers of alcohol, a baggie of marijuana was located.  The search of the vehicle also discovered a small baggie of a white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine. The substance, that weighed approximately 3.5 grams, was found in a crack of the passenger's front seat. Both occupants denied the presence of the substance.  The driver was arrested for his traffic warrant and for possession of marijuana. He was also cited for driving while license invalid and for driving with an open container. The passenger was arrested for possession of a controlled substance (cocaine).

Friday morning at about 12:35, Officer Joe Plato was dispatched to a public intoxication call at the main gate of Dyess Air Force Base (AFB). APD Dispatch had been notified by Dyess AFB security forces that a male subject had driven his vehicle the wrong way towards the main gate and attempted to enter the base with his vehicle. During that process, the front tires on the vehicle were punctured by tire shredders in the exit lanes. The subject was detained and identified by security forces personnel. Officer Plato's investigation revealed that the male subject was a minor under the age of 21 and had recently left a bar after consuming alcohol.  The subject was arrested for driving under the influence.
