Members of the New Horizon church were excited to finally buy a new air conditioner after they're previous one was stolen.

"We used it one service, Sunday, and that's the only time we got to use it," said Michael Tomlinson, a member of the church.

However, Tomlinson was in for a big surprise when he decided to check up on it.

"I just have a habit of checking now that they had taken one and I drove by earlier today to take a look and it was there and I came back by," he said.

This is what he found.

An empty platform, instead of the air conditioner that had just been there hours before.

Another air conditioner had a few cut cables as well.

It no longer works.

"They didn't just steal from one person, they stole from several families," said Tomlinson.

Without two of those air conditioners working the temperature inside the church is quickly rising, reaching above one hundred degrees.

The 30 members had been saving up for weeks to purchase the $2900 console.

They'll now have to depend on the one remaining unit.

In fact its so hot inside the church, its hard for anyone to not break a sweat after just a few minutes.

"You can't really stay very long because its so hot and the preacher if he tries to get up and preach with his suit on well hes just like in a furnace," said Tomlinson.

Tomlinson has reported the theft to police.

He'll now have to break the news to the rest of the congregation and bear the heat.

"They were kinda like I was," he said, "they just couldn't believe that someone would come back and do it again a second time."

Members say they will once again save up to buy a new replacement.

This time however, they say they'll be fencing that unit in to hopefully prevent it from happening again.

Comments

I am so sad for this congregation. I would hope that as many churches as there are in this city that we couls all help themout to get a new one and get the oter one repaired.
