With flags in hand, people of all ages lined the streets of downtown Abilene to cheer on the men and women who have served our county, specifically in WWII.

"They made a path for us military and for our freedoms", says Juan Martinez of the US Air Force

The parade featured a missing man flyover, WWII vehicles, and even a display of classic cars.

After the festivities outside, folks gathered inside the 12th Armored Division Memorial Museum to view displays and share stories.

The event meant a lot to Charlie Fitts, who was a prisoner of war during WWII.

"We were captured and imprisoned about three months, before we were turned loose by the Germans", says Fitts.

Fitts rode in one of the restored vehicles during the parade and says the whole event was a great way to honor veterans.

"It gives us a chance to thank Abilene for supporting us, and it gives the chance to Abilene to see a few of us are still alive", Fitts tells us.

The fourth of August looked more like the Fourth of July in Abilene Texas on Saturday.

We're told the turnout was great this year. The museum offered free admission all day long, and was packed full.
